After Bailing Out the Auto Industry, How 'Bout a Bailout for Poor College Graduates?
Imagine the millions of jobs that could be created if college graduates didn't have to pay back all those loans they took on? Rather than sending so much of their money to big banks who already got a government bailout, they could spend their salaries in pubs and amusement parks, on cars and houses, and so many other things that would result directly in jobs for hard-working (or currently not working) Americans. There is a great swath of Americans who have to send anywhere from $150 to $500 every month to banks. That's millions of dollars NOT going into the American economy.
If the federal government were truly interested in saving our economy and spurring job growth -- especially in the bartending, entertainment, and sportscar production sectors -- they would act immediately to relieve college grads still stuck paying exorbitant monthly loan payments.
What's that? You say the college grads signed for those loans on their own and it's only fair that they should now have to pay the tab for their own actions and decisions? Pfft. That whole "responsibile for my own actions" line is sooooo 60 years ago.
