Ros-Lehtinen Pleased With Passage Of Legislation To Award Congressional Gold Medals To The Women Airforce Service Pilots Of Worl

Submitted by Rep. Ileana Ros...

Washington, DC -Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, is very pleased that legislation has been approved by the House to award the Women Air Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II the Congressional Gold Medal. The Congressional Gold Medal is Congress' highest honor and this act will honor these women pilots who have never received any formal or public recognition for their wartime service to the United States.

Ros-Lehtinen introduced the bill in the House and today managed the legislation on the House Floor. It will now be sent to the President for his signature.

UN Peacekeepers Paying Homage to Hezbollah Dead is Disturbing

Photographs showing United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) troops saluting the remains of dead Hezbollah militants are deeply disturbing and, frankly, quite repugnant. UN authorities have defended the soldiers’ actions, saying that the troops were following custom.

Rather than denying UNIFIL’s failings and justifying its soldiers’ reverence for dead extremists, perhaps UN authorities should remind troops on the ground that their principal job is to enforce UN mandated ceasefires objectively. Allowing Hezbollah militants to rearm, leaking them information, and saluting their dead does little to keep the peace or restore faith in a broken UN system.
