McCotter Urges Bush to Reconsider Attending Communist China’s Olympics

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Congressman Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI), Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee, is asking his colleagues to join him in urging President Bush to reconsider his attendance at the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympics in communist China.

“In light of this communist dictatorship’s rogue actions against our nation and others, the President’s attendance at these games in communist China will subvert the moral authority of his position as the Leader of the Free World – a Free World which will be watching and weighing his participation.

“Bluntly, attending these games as the President of the United States will not make him a passive spectator.  It will reinforce our foreign policy establishment’s short-sighted and injurious communist China “exception”; and, thereby, President Bush will be making this political statement:  ‘The United States is devoted to the self-evident truth every human being is endowed by their creator with the unalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness – except in communist China.’

“It is my sincerest hope he reconsiders and refuses to attend the 2008 Beijing Olympics, just as President Franklin Roosevelt refused to attend the 1936 Berlin Olympics, because it is my gravest fear the communist China “exception” will prove the death of American Exceptionalism.”
