Washington, D.C.– House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement in response to the January jobs report.
“This week, the Congressional Budget Office released its annual Budget and Economic Outlook which projected that in the near future economic growth will continue to be disappointing while unemployment will remain unacceptably high – far above what the president promised,” said Chairman Price. “While any sign of job creation is positive, the economy is still in need of relief from those failed policies which have weighed down economic opportunities by drastically increasing the burden of debt, growing the size of government, and threatening more taxes on job creators and American families. Last month, President Obama even rejected a bipartisan plan to create jobs and enhance the nation’s energy security when he made the political decision to turn down the Keystone XL pipeline project.
“While the president is campaigning across the country and playing the politics of envy and division, House Republicans are asking the Senate to act on nearly 30 bipartisan pieces of legislation we have sent them and which would create a positive environment for job creators, expand opportunities for growth and private investment in the economy, and get Washington out of the way. President Obama ought to pick up the phone and call Senator Reid and the Democrat-majority in the Senate and ask them to act on these pieces of legislation, and, at the very least, pass a credible budget to get the nation’s fiscal house in order. House Republicans have acted and will continue to act, and we call on our colleagues to join us.”
