Summary
H.R. 5730 establishes the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Systems Integration Facility (TSIF) for the purposes of testing and evaluating advanced transportation security screening technologies related to the mission of TSA. Specifically, the legislation directs TSIF to evaluate and test advanced technologies, while sharing operational test plans, collaborating with other technical laboratories, and delivering advanced transportation security screening technologies.
Background
The TSA Systems Integration Facility is located at Ronald Reagan National Airport and is a facility to test new and existing technologies the TSA uses at airports across the country. The facility includes an explosives testing lab, tools used at checkpoints, and a full scale bag room. Upon approving a new technology in the laboratory, it is implemented through test programs at airports around the country before being fully deployed.
