1 Rule Bill
1) H.R. 620 - ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017 (PDF)
Sponsor: Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) | Judiciary Committee
Topline Summary: This bill ensures greater protection of individuals with disabilities while providing business owners with the opportunity to remedy alleged Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) infractions before incurring unnecessary litigation costs. Specifically, the bill amends the private enforcement provisions of the public accommodation requirements of Title III of the ADA to: (1) require a notice and cure period before the commencement of a private civil action; (2) require the Department of Justice to develop a program to educate state and local governments and property owners on strategies for promoting access to public accommodations for persons with a disability; and (3) require the Judicial Conference of the United States to develop a model program to promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to resolve claims of architectural barriers for public accommodations.
