Topline Summary: The bill converts 14 temporary bankruptcy judges to permanent status and authorizes four new bankruptcy judgeships.

Topline Summary: This bill requires Department of Justice (DOJ) to report statistics on pending claims for death and disability benefits to public safety officers and their families. 

3) H.R. 984 - Thomasina E. Jordan Indian Tribes of Virginia Federal Recognition Act of 2017 (PDF)

Topline Summary: This bill extends federal tribal recognition to the Chickahominy Indian Tribe, the Chickahominy Indian Tribe – Eastern Division, the Upper Mattaponi Tribe, the Rappahannock Tribe, Inc., the Monacan Indian Nation, and the Nansemond Indian Tribe.

4) H.R. 2227 - MGT Act, as amended (PDF)

Topline Summary:  The bill establishes an internet technology (IT) working capital fund for each federal government agency to improve, retire, or replace existing information technology systems, to improve efficiency and effectiveness, and transition to cloud computing innovative platforms and technologies. Federal agencies may reinvest the savings realized by modernizing IT to capitalize the agency’s IT working capital fund and use for future modernization projects.

5) H.R. 194 - Federal Agency Mail Management Act of 2017 (PDF)

Topline Summary: The bill amends the Presidential and Federal Records Act Amendments of 2014 to clarify that the General Services Administration (GSA) has responsibility for promoting and recommending efficient mail processing practices among federal agencies.   

6) H.R. 195 - Federal Register Printing Savings Act of 2017 (PDF)

Topline Summary: This bill prohibits the Government Publishing Office from providing a printed copy of the Federal Register to a Member of Congress or any other office unless the Member or office requests a printed copy of a specific issue, or the Member or office requests a one year subscription of printed copies of the Federal Register. 

7) H.R. 653 - Federal Intern Protection Act of 2017 (PDF)

Topline Summary: This bill expands existing workplace harassment and discrimination protections to unpaid federal government interns (paid interns are already treated as employees). This includes protections against discrimination based on race, color, gender, religion, national origin, age, or handicapping condition.

6) H.R. 2169 - Improving Fusion Centers’ Access to Information Act, as amended (PDF)

Topline Summary: The bill  requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to conduct outreach to fusion centers to proactively identify gaps in information sharing and coordinate with the appropriate Federal agency to deploy or provide access to these systems or information sources as appropriate.  A fusion center is a “collaborative effort of two or more law enforcement agencies that provide resources, expertise and information to the center with the goal of maximizing ability to detect, prevent, investigate, and respond to criminal and terrorist activity.”  

8) H.R. 2281 - Border Enforcement Security Task Force Reauthorization Act of 2017, as amended (PDF)

Topline Summary: This bill requires the Department of Homeland Security to apply a risk-based approach to establishing Border Enhancement Security Task Force (BEST) units and missions to advance the Department’s homeland and border security strategic priorities. 

9) H.R. 2213 - Anti-Border Corruption Reauthorization Act of 2017, as amended (PDF)

Topline Summary:  The bill allows the Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to waive certain pre-employment screening requirements for individuals applying to work for CBP who have previously been screened to work in law enforcement or  who have had a security clearance in the military. 

10) H.R. 1177 - Removing Outdated Restrictions to Allow for Job Growth Act (PDF)

Sponsor: Rep. Bruce Poliquin (R-ME)  | Agriculture Committee

Topline Summary: This bill directs the Secretary of Agriculture to remove a deed restriction on land that was conveyed from the federal government to the city of Old Town, Maine so that the city can move forward with economic development plans that would, purportedly, create 175 new jobs.

11) H.R. 2154 - To rename the Red River Valley Agricultural Research Center in Fargo, North Dakota, as the Edward T. Schafer Agricultural Research Center, as amended (PDF)

Topline Summary: This bill changes the name of the Red River Valley Agricultural Research Center in Fargo, North Dakota to the “Edward T. Schafer Agricultural Research Center”. 

12) H.R. 672 - Combating European Anti-Semitism Act of 2017, as amended (PDF)

Topline Summary: This bill expresses the sense of Congress that: (1) it is in the U.S. national interest to combat anti-Semitism at home and abroad; (2) there is a need to ensure the security of European Jewish communities, including synagogues, schools, and cemeteries; and (3) the United States should continue to emphasize the importance of combatting anti-Semitism in multilateral bodies. 

13) H.Res. 145 - Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives regarding the fight against corruption in Central America, as amended (PDF)

Postponed Suspension Vote

1) H.R. 1892 - Honoring Hometown Heroes Act (PDF)

Sponsor: Rep. John Larson (D-CT) | Judiciary Committee

Topline Summary: This bill authorizes governors to proclaim that the U.S. flag shall be flown at half-staff in the event of the death of a first responder (public safety officer) working in such jurisdiction who dies while serving in the line of duty. The House will meet at 10:00 a.m. for morning hour and 12:00 p.m. for legislative business. First votes expected: 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Last votes expected: 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
